Every One Needs a Game Plan
May 16, 2025
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of having a game plan, so much so that I thought I heard my husband say "game plan" in his sleep.
But the truth is, a game plan isn’t just a catchy phrase. It requires time, intentionality, and often, a whole lot of heartache. Developing one usually looks like trial and error, failure, frustration, disappointment, and even discouragement. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines of life and let everything happen in front of us, around us, and to us.
But if there’s even an ounce of desire for something better—something more—then we have to take steps toward change. That change begins in our mindset, in our habits, and in how we relate to ourselves and others. This kind of transformation is life-altering, and let’s be honest: many aren’t ready for it. It means sacrificing the things that once brought us comfort and peace—the very things we’re afraid to let go of.
And it is scary. It does feel uncertain.
But when we give ourselves permission to dream—to really dream—and take hold of the abundance God created for us to enjoy during our time on this earth, we begin to see how fleeting life really is. Making ends meet is simply making ends meet: getting up, getting to work, getting home, getting rest and reset while our health, our wealth (whatever that means to each of us), and the lives of our loved ones are all slowly becoming memories.
So what is the game plan?
How are we preparing our children to be financially secure in a world that’s changing faster than we can keep up with—a world that may look nothing like the one we knew growing up? I agree—life isn’t about money. I believe money is about creating purposeful opportunities for us, for our children, for others to share in life's blessings.
How do we teach our children to have a healthy relationship with money, with people, and community?
These are the kinds of questions a strong game plan forces us to consider.
Some people don’t need a big “why” to get started—they just move. But for people like me, that BIG WHY is what anchors every decision, every strategy, every move I make on the field. It gives meaning to every play. And as I survey the field of my life, I know I need the right players—people who are in it to win together. Sometimes it feels like we are short on players, but I trust that God will bring us to our people—and bring our people to us.
I’m working on my game plan and I know one thing for sure: I’m in the game.
